الجنية فتوحة: حكاية عن غابات القرم
فتوحة فتاة صغيرة تعيش وحدها في جزيرة من جزر القرم في أم القيوين، بعد اختفاء أبيها في ظروف غامضة. تكبر بين أشجار القرم والطيور والبحر، فتصبح الطبيعة مدرستها. تتعلّم من الغابة والطيور، ومن البحر تتعلّم الإبحار ومعرفة الوقت وتحديد المكان، مستعينةً بعلوم الملاحة التي عرفها البحّارة العرب الأقدمون، والتي علّمها إياها والدها قبل اختفائه.
تنشأ بين فتوحة والطبيعة علاقة عميقة، وبمساعدة الشجرة الأم تعبر إلى أرض البشر، حيث ترى حياة المدن بعيون الغريب، وتكتشف عالماً مختلفاً بما يحمله من جمال ومآسٍ وتناقضات. تعود من رحلتها أكثر وعياً بقيمة عالمها، لتصبح حاميةً لغابات القرم والطبيعة التي كانت بيتها ومدرستها

the Gini Fatouhah: a tale about mangroves
Fatouhah is a young girl who lives alone on a mangrove island in Umm Al Quwain after her father mysteriously disappears. She grows up surrounded by mangrove trees, birds and the sea, with nature becoming her school. She learns from the forest, birds, sea and the stars how to navigate, sail, swim, tell the time and find her location, drawing on the navigational knowledge of early Arab seafarers that her father taught her before his disappearance.
Fatouhah develops a deep connection with the natural world around her. With the help of the Mother Tree, she journeys to the land of humans, where she sees city life through the eyes of an outsider and discovers a different world, with all its beauty, tragedies and contradictions. She returns from her journey with a deeper understanding of the value of her own world, becoming a guardian of the mangrove forests and the nature that has been her home and her school.
The illustrations of the sory were created through a collaborative process, combining Geraldine Chansard’s drawings with my watercolour paintings, inspired by and painted from a kayak in the mangroves.
I am delighted to announce that the Arabic edition of the story has been published by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage and will be available at the Sharjah International Book Fair 2026, held at Expo Centre Sharjah from 4 to 15 November 2026.
